That was a particular question that the son of Hades didn’t enjoyed being asked. Perhaps that was the only upside to being ignored, looked over, and repulsed by from others, because then he didn’t have to deal with that inevitable question that most people asked in a joke. This, however, wasn’t a joke; nor was it asked in such light.
It wasn’t like the boy always knew the answer to someone’s death date prior to some hours beforehand or a day, but there were particular cases where he did. Nico just hoped that his behavior around Jason as of late due to the circumstances didn’t initiate the inquiry.
He sighed as he looked away, pressing a hand to his temple where a headache was forming, “Fifty-nine days, seven-hundred and thirty four hours and forty-nine seconds. So no …,” Nico turned his back, not wanting to see his friend’s face upon the news, “not twenty years. I’m sorry that you won’t be able to make it to see the next time the McRib comes back.”
It was a lot to take in, and the more Nico spoke the harder it was to swallow that pill. His mind was buzzing with the possibilities. Would he die by sword? Or by illness? Or would the gods just strike him down where he stood? Questions about how it would feel, if he felt anything, what would happen after, and how could he stop it all threatened to spill out of his mouth like word vomit.
But Jason kept his mouth shut. He didn’t need to pester the shorter boy for questions, didn’t need to drill him looking for answers. He trusted Nico enough to know that if there was a cure he would have said something about it, and other details…well the less he knew the better. Trying to change your fate was always a sticky situation, and maybe for once Jason could just follow orders without questioning why.
Taking a few steps forward, he placed his hand on Nico’s shoulder and gave it a small squeeze. “Bummer, but I never saw what the hype was anyways. Too much sauce for my liking, but I guess some people like it,” the blonde shrugged. “I prefer their hamburgers, which actually sounds pretty good right now.”
